Plitvice Lakes National Park is the most popular tourist attraction in Croatia.

- the oldest and largest national park of Croatia;
- founded in 1949;
- a UNESCO World Heritage Site;
- the park consists of 16 lakes interconnected by waterfalls and surrounded by forest vegetation which covers ~99% of the total park area; the vegetation is home to wolves, bears, deer, wildcats, wild pig and lynx;
- its waterfalls are similar to those from Krka National Park, the only difference being that swimming in Plitvice is strictly forbidden;
- highest point at 1280m/4200mi;
- highest waterfall in Croatia located in the Lower Lakes area (The Great Waterfall/Veliki Slap, 70m/229ft);
- fluctuating water colours depending on the amount of minerals or organisms or the angle of sunlight (from turquoise to green or grey);
- activities to do in the park: lake tour (7 routes as described below and 4 hiking trails available), rowing, skiing and sleighing in winter;
